1st December 2017

We hope everyone enjoyed celebrating reading stories at our recent slumber party and the PTSA put on a spelltacular Harry Potter Disco too!  The excitement doesn't stop there though... In the weeks ahead there are lots more events, trips, Christmas plays and exciting learning happening. Please have a good look at the dates included in this newsletter as well as the calendar on the website.

We are hoping to better showcase all of the exciting events that happen in our school. If you have any graphic design skills and would be willing to help us with a few ideas, we would be really grateful. Please speak to Mrs Moore or Mr Craner, the business manager.

There are also some dates for some coffee mornings coming up. On 8th December, there is a chance to learn about some of the interventions which happen in school (Nessy and Toe by Toe etc). On the 12th January, there is a SEN (Special Educational Needs) parents coffee morning led by one of the parents in school. We hope to see you there!

This week we are taking part in our annual arts project called Take One Picture, where our theme is Respect Your Self(ie). There has been lots of great art happening around the school and at home! Thank you for your great art selfies at home.  Here are examples from Key Stage 1 and 2 but come and see Aurora's, Josh's, Olivia's, Michal's, Kerenza's and Okkie's which are all on display.

Sports news

Our yearly sports competition calendar has started again. The Year 1 and 2 children took part in the Waltham Forest Athletic competition last week (picture above) and came 6th out of 40 schools! What an amazing achievement!

Ms Marti has lots of different school teams: football, tag rugby, athletics, basketball, volleyball, handball and hockey. There are several teams for each sport for different ages and for boys and girls.

Well done to our girl's football team (below) recently reached the quarter finals of the Chingford Goals tournament.

A reminder to ensure that your children have an appropriately warm PE kit at this time of the year (legs and arms covered please).  PE and sports clubs still take place outdoors in winter.

Anti-bullying week

We have been learning about Anti-Bullying Week with the theme all different, all equal. The work you made at home was absolutely amazing and is on display outside the front of school and in the hall. During the week, the children helped write our anti-bullying information sheet for children which is a bit like our "child friendly" anti-bullying policy. It can be found below.

The Gwyn Jones PTSA are excited to announce our Mickey’s Very Merry Holiday Fair! This is a wonderful festive event for all the family, with a huge raffle, children’s crafts, a bottle and sweets tombola and fun games and prizes, plus hot food, cakes, mince pies, hot/mulled drinks. Bring along all your family, friends and neighbours! Everyone is invited. Entry is 50p for adults, 20p for children (or free entry for those of you helping at the fair and arrive by 9am to set up). Under 3s are of course free too. We really need more volunteers for this event to run so please email hello@gwynjonespta.com if you can help.

Play Squad and Peer Mentors

We're very proud to announce this half term's play buddy and peer mentor stars. We are so proud of how they help other children have a lovely lunchtime and support everyone getting along. From all of us, a big thank you!

I know that lots of parents are eager to get more information about what their child is learning in school. Please remember to look at the curriculum page on our website which details all the objectives the children will be covering this half term in Creative Curriculum, English and Maths. This will help if you have bought revision books for the children or if want to go on any trips or visits to enhance the children's understanding of their Creative Curriculum topics.

On 18th December, the roads outside school will become part of a Controlled Parking Zone from 10am-4pm. Although you can buy permits for picking up your child from Waltham Forest, please consider alternative ways to get the school. There is safe bike and scooter parking and a crossing patrol to help walkers.

Whilst the roads are being marked, there are also daily changes to parking restrictions around the local area. Please check before you park.
