14th March 2017

We've had a few really exciting weeks in school and as you'll see from our list of important dates later in this newsletter, we have three more busy weeks this term.

World Book Day:  It was great to see all of the fantastic costumes. A big thank you to the parents who read to the children and we hope they all enjoyed the traditional tales treasure hunt.

Take One Picture Week:  All of the work from the week (focusing on artist Yinka Shonibare) is now on display in the school hall so please take a look. The children thought really hard about identity and what that meant to them.

Year 4 Sleepover:  The children had their sleepover at school on Friday night. Their behavior was excellent and they even managed to get some sleep (I'm sure they slept more on Saturday night!).  We really hope this helps them feel move confident for their camping trip in year 5.

More Sports Success: This term, for the first time, every year group has taken part in a sporting competition with local schools. Basketball, handball, tag rugby, hockey, golf and football.  As well as coming back with huge smiles on their faces, the teams have been really successful.  More details and pictures here.

Gardening and Volunteer Day (1.30 Friday): Spring has sprung and the children are really enjoying the school's garden spaces.  The pond is teeming with frogs and frogspawn and all year groups planted potatoes for a competition last week.  The borough council will providing plants and kit if we can rally some volunteers for a Spring Clean event this Friday afternoon!  We’d be hugely grateful if you could join us.  More details here.

Letter from the School Council:  Ibrahim from 5M explains why you shouldn’t throw litter on our school grounds (or anywhere).  Read the letter here.

Cuts to school funding: You may have seen a number of stories in the press around school funding and I wanted to let parents know how they can help make their opinions about cuts to budgets known.  Read more here.

Breakfast and After School Clubs: We have recently expanded our provision. If you would like a regular place at either club, please collect a form from the school office.

New Anti-Bullying Policy: This can be found by clicking here. We would appreciate any feedback you have.

Feedback: The school always welcomes feedback from parents and carers.  You can always speak to us directly on the school gate, make an appointment at the office or email us at school@gwynjones.waltham.sch.uk. Alternatively, OFSTED's Parent View is a really quick survey (12 multiple choice) that records your views about the school.  Click here.
