Home Learning - Summer 2020

Hello parents, carers and children of Gwyn Jones Primary!

We hope you are all keeping well.  We want to know that although we are not seeing each other at school, the staff of the school are still thinking of you all and wondering how you are.   We know that lots of families are finding juggling working from home whilst getting the children to engage in online learning activities a challenge. We do not want to put extra pressure on families at this difficult time.  Our home learning expectations:

Daily:

Reading: One of the biggest activities that will have the most impact on your child’s learning is reading at home. I would recommend that all children complete 20 mins of daily reading and then complete one of the reading journal activities.

Maths: 20 minutes practicing the basics e.g. times tables, number bonds, the four operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication). If the children can be well versed in the basics this will have a big impact on their return

Physical and mental health: I would expect that the children participate in some physical activity and have down time for mental health.

Weekly:

Teachers are updating the year group home learning pages at least twice a week, for your child to engage with.

It might be helpful for your family to create a daily schedule together.  It is also good to make the week days different from the weekend with a much more relaxed structure to the day.

My main message would be to not put pressure on yourselves of the children, to make it fit in with your family life and to be flexible. I wouldn’t worry if on a Wednesday morning your child decided that it was all too much and they just wanted a day of down time. This is an anxious time for our children, who will be struggling with their own feelings about not being able to see friends and loved ones and it is important that we recognise that.

You'll see below some recommended websites and activities, collated by all the staff at Gwyn Jones.  We've put these here for you to pick and choose from but you can also go to your Year Group page to find more suggestions and updates from your class teachers.

Stay safe, Sian Boutalbi (Headteacher)
